Overview

Tent Peak Climb is known as Tharpu Chuli, it is an adventure within the scenic and beautiful Annapurna Sanctuary enclosed within range of high snow-capped mountains where Tent Peak situated due north from the base camp.

A marvelous journey walking into the heart of world’s tenth highest Mt. Annapurna which stands at 8,091 m high, one of the first 8,000 m mountains ever climbed in early 1950’s by French Expeditions before Everest was climbed in 1953.

Annapurna Sanctuary was first explored by Col Jimmy Roberts in early 1960’s and found the place a heaven and a paradise and named Sanctuary of gods and natural spirits due to its pristine location away from main villages and human settlement.

Tent Peak stands high at 5,663 m and 18,575 ft above the sanctuary and Annapurna base camp also called Tharpu Chuli in local Gurung and Nepalese language, as listed on NMA (Nepal Mountaineering Association), Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli climb which is one the most challenging peak to tackle to reach its summit top.

The grade of the climb is PD + taken from French & Swiss Alpine Climbing Classification System as used worldwide on this type of small expeditions, which leads you to rocks, moraine, ice and glaciers where climbers require full climbing gear and with full safety measures for the ascent of Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli climb.
Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli Climb starts with the drive from Kathmandu to scenic Pokhara valley and then heading towards green rolling hills visiting interesting Gurung farm villages of Buddhist religion as walks lead into the green alpine forest and into Modi River gorge.

As gorge opens up into a wide scenic Annapurna Sanctuary leading towards the end of the valley at Annapurna base camp, with time for acclimatization and to enjoy the surrounding views of high peaks.

Our adventure carries on past ABC to reach our next base camp of Tent peak / Tharpu Chuli for exciting and tough challenging climb on top with the full support of our expert guide, on reaching the summit with a superb panorama of Annapurna as far to Dhaulagiri and Manaslu range of mountains.

After Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli Climb our journey leads back to Pokhara with interesting walks and drive to complete this great adventure of all time having wonderful experience around high hills and peaks of Annapurna Himalaya.

Short Itinerary

Day 01:  Arrive in Kathmandu and Transfer to Hotel

Day 02:  In Kathmandu with sightseeing with trek briefing and preparation.

Day 03: Drive to Pokhara 860 m and transfer to hotel near Phewa lake side – 06 hrs.

Day 04: Drive to Nayapul and trek to Ghandruk 1,940m -05 hrs.

Day 05: Trek to Chomrong village at 2,170m – 06 hrs.

Day 06: Trek to Dovan 2,600 m via Bamboo 2,310 – 06 hrs.

Day 07: Trek to Machhapuchare Base Camp 3,700 via Deurali 3,200 m – 05 hrs.

Day 08: Trek to Annapurna Base Camp 4,130 m – 03 hrs with free afternoon.

Day 09: At Annapurna Base Camp for acclimatization and preparation for the climb.

Day 10: Trek to Tent peak base camp 4,450 m / 14,600 ft – 05 hrs.

Day 11: Trek to high camp 4,800 m – 04 hrs.

Day 12: Climb Tent Peak 5,663 m high and return to base camp – 08 hrs.

Day 13: Trek back to Annapurna Base Camp – 05 hrs.

Day 14: Trek back to Bamboo 2,310 m – 06 hrs.

Day 15: Trek to Jhinu Danda (hot-spring) 1,780 m – 05 hrs.

Day 16: Trek to Bhirethati and drive to Pokhara – 07 hrs.

Day 17: Drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.

Day 18: International departure for home ward bound.

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu and Transfer to Hotel.

On reaching Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, received by our guides and staff then transfer to your hotel in the hub of Kathmandu city, after getting refreshed join with other members of Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli Climb, where our guide will brief you regarding trek and climb, do’s and don’ts, Nepalese culture, lodge on route trek with full information to make your stay with us enjoyable and memorable, evening welcome dinner at typical Nepalese restaurant with folk-cultural program as entertainment during dinner.

Day 02: Kathmandu with sightseeing tour, trek briefing and preparations.

Morning after breakfast at given time for sightseeing tour, our city guides will meet you at the hotel for interesting sightseeing tour leading you in the heart of Kathmandu at old Durbar (palace) square of great historical importance includes Temple of Kumari (Living young virgin Goddess) Kastamandap Temple where Kathmandu name derived from, a temple built with the wood of a single tree, tour of old palace during the reign of Malla and late Shah kings. Tour leads to famous landmark of Nepal at Swayambhunath Stupa of more than 2,500 years old a Buddhist Chaitya or Stupa with all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha. Afternoon visit holy Hindu Temple of Pashupatinath adorned with silver doors and golden tiers roofed pagoda a popular and famous temple where thousands of pilgrims visits every year in the month of February on Shiva Rartri (Lord Shiva birth anniversary). After an interesting and exciting tour of world heritage sites return back to hotel for Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli Climb preparation.

Day 03: Drive to Pokhara 860 m and transfer to hotel near Phewa Lake - 06 hrs.

Wonderful adventure to Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli climb starts with an interesting overland drive towards Nepal mid west, leading to Pokhara as drive leads on Nepal national highway following Trisuli River for sometimes, and then heading west to reach at scenic Pokhara city located in a green valley within Annapurna Himalaya and Machhapuchare Himal 'Fish Tail'. On reaching Pokhara transfer to your hotel by the lake side of Phewa Tal, with time for walks around the streets of Phewa lake side.

Day 04: Drive to Nayapul (trekking point) and trek to Ghandruk 1,940 m - 04 hrs.

Starting adventure to Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli Climb with few hour drives to Nayapul and at Bhirethati villages, situated by the Modi River. First day walk begins encountering many farm villages with views of waterfalls then with gradual climb for few hours to reach at Ghandruk for overnight stop in the comfort of nice lodge, after a an interesting good walks and climb uphill of four hours. Ghandruk a large Gurung village which leads to many trekking and other adventure routes around Annapurna Himalaya, Gurung people are mainly framers and cattle herders with 200 years of history in supplying best Gorkha soldiers to foreign legion in UK - India and Singapore. Afternoon as time permits visit Gurung museum with wide information of Gurung culture and heritage of Buddhist religion offers views of Annapurna Himalaya.

Day 05: Trek to Chomrong village at 2,170m - 06 hrs.

After a pleasant morning with views of Annapurna South-Huinchuli and Fish Tail peaks our second day walk leads above Ghandruk village and then with steep climb to Kimrong danda (ridge), here with short stop then on downhill trail into cool alpine forest to reach at lovely Kimrong valley. With lunch break afternoon uphill climb towards Chomrong village through terraced farm areas, an hour uphill reaching then on gentle stone paved path. Reaching one of the largest Gurung villages in Chomrong, which is the last village before Annapurna base camp and the sanctuary, beyond Chomrong are just temporary settlement to cater the need of trekkers with lodge and guest houses.

Day 06: Trek to Dovan 2,600 m via Bamboo 2,310 - 06 hrs.

Morning walk downhill to cross a short bridge heading up to reach at Sinuwa at 2,360 m high, a lonely spot with few shops and nice lodges walk from here leads into cool forested area of oaks-rhododendron and pines trees and then a short steep descend to Bamboo a small settlement with 5-6 lodges surrounded by bamboo trees, on Modi River gorge. After Bamboo an hour or more of slow climb brings at Dovan for overnight stop located within Modi River Gorge with couple of lodge for overnight stay.

Day 07: Trek to Machhapuchare Base Camp 3,700 via Deurali 3,200 m - 05 hrs.

After a nice overnight stop at Dovan with the sound of raging Modi River, morning walk leads higher through thick forested area reaching at Himalaya Hotel located beneath Huinchuli peak and large overhanging Hinko Cave. From downhill by the Modi River crossing ablation of old avalanches of rocky moraine, then a short climb brings at Deurali after leaving the gorge area to more wide open area. From Deurali after lunch stop heading higher leaving the tree lines behind following the raging glacial Modi River all the way to Machhapuchare base camp at 3,700 m high for overnight stop, located beneath towering North Face of the Fish Tail Mountain.

Day 08: Trek to Annapurna Base Camp 4,130 m - 03 hrs with free afternoon.

Walk this morning leads into famous scenic Annapurna Sanctuary where Annapurna Base Camp located. From Machhapuchare Base Camp starting point of the sanctuary, walk leads towards higher ground for few hours to enter into a magical sanctuary within amphitheatre of peaks that surrounds this amazing place. After few hours of pleasant walk brings you to the highest spot of this adventure at Annapurna base camp with 4,130 meters elevation. The one and only base camp around Himalaya with facilities of nice and cozy lodge and inns to stay with scenic panorama of whole Annapurna range of peaks. Afternoon enjoy with views of Annapurna I (8,091m / 26,545ft) Annapurna South (7,219m-23,693ft), Gangapurna (7,455m-24,457ft) and Annapurna III (7,555m-24,787ft), including to Mt. Machhapuchare (Fish-tail) at 6,790 m stretches up towards Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli and Fluted Peaks or Singu Chuli.

Day 09: At Annapurna base camp rest and acclimatization.

A full rest day for acclimatization and short hike with views snow-peaks including Annapurna I, a large wall of a mountain. Here with time for preparation for next day trek and climb to Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli Base Camp.

Day 10: Trek to Tent peak / Tharpu Chuli base Camp 4,450 m / 14,600 ft - 05 hrs.

From Annapurna Base Camp, our route heads across snow-covered moraine rocky path and towards icy trail for an hour reaching at Annapurna south glacier. Walk with short climb offers excellent views of Tent peak with other high mountains, after few hours of good trek reaching a flat ground to set our base camp with first night camping, afternoon free for climbing preparation.

Day 11: Trek to High Camp 5,200 m / 17,056 ft - 04 hrs.

Adding an extra camp makes the climb much better and accessible to reach the summit top, from base camp heading further with steep climb over rock and glacier with lot of boulders, climb continues reaching high camp at 5,200 meters high, afternoon free preparation for next morning summit bid.

Day 12: Climb Tent Peak summit and return to Base Camp - 06 hrs.

Our goal and high lights on this Big Day! Starting early morning climbing over steep snow slope with some technical section to reach on top of the summit; where our expert guide will fix ropes on necessary section of the climb to make it safe to reach the summit, after a tough and hard climb reaching at the top feeling in high spirit with amazing views that surrounds the summit. After a great time on top with awesome scenery descend back safely to base camp.

Day 13: Trek back to Annapurna Base Camp - 05 hrs.

From Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli base camp, after having breakfast and cleaning up base camp walk back to Annapurna Base Camp on icy trail, a normal moderate walk of about five hours to overnight stop at Annapurna base camp in the comfort of nice lodge.

Day 14: Trek back to Bamboo 2,310 m - 06 hrs.

After a most memorable and adventurous time on tough and successful climb on Tent Peak within sanctuary retrace the journey back walking downhill back into tree lines with few short ups to reach at Bamboo for overnight stop.

Day 15: Trek to Jhinu Danda (hot-spring) 1,780 m - 05 hrs.

From Bamboo on leaving Modi River gorge climb leads up to Khuldi-Ghar into forested area, and then a short gradual walk to Sinuwa danda, from here descend to Chomrong River, and then climb on steps to Chomrong for lunch stop. After Chomrong a short climb to the top ridge and then changing our direction from here with an alternative route to reach Pokhara, a short downhill walk brings at scenic and lovely Jhinu village for overnight stop, located on a ridge top with views of surrounding landscapes and rolling green hills. A short descend of 25 minutes reaches you at hot-spring by the Modi River.

Day 16: Trek to Bhirethati and drive to Pokhara - 06 hrs.

After a refreshing time at Jhinu village, our last day walks of the adventure on Tent Peak/ Tharpu Chuli Climb, leads to a descend following Modi River towards warmer areas past smaller farm villages. Walk continue reaching at the bottom of Ghandruk and Landruk village, where the trail leads you back into farm areas with more villages reaching at Bhirethati or in Nayapul for few hour drive back to scenic Pokhara for last overnight stop around Annapurna Himalaya.

Day 17: Drive back to Kathmandu.

Morning an exciting drive back to Kathmandu with memories of exciting Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli climb around Annapurna Himalaya, an interesting six hour drive brings you back at Kathmandu with afternoon at leisure for shopping souvenirs, evening farewell dinner in nice Nepalese restaurants with folk culture programs.

Day 18: International Departure.

Your last day in Nepal in the country of high Himalaya with fascinating culture and memorable time on Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli Climb around high and scenic Annapurna Sanctuary with wonderful experience, as per your international flight time transfer to airport for the flight back home or to respective countries.
