Thorang Peak Climb, amazing to know that hundreds of trekkers follow the route of Manang towards high Thorang-La pass to reach Muktinath and Jomsom, yet trekkers often notice Thorang peak but least and seldom summated.
Thorang Peak at an altitude of 6,144 m / 20,275 ft high stands majestically above Thorang-la passes on the popular scenic trail of Annapurna circuit trekking beyond beautiful Manang valley and on the border of Mustang areas.
A striking peak to look at, as climb leads to the sweeping panorama of Chulu’s, Annapurna, Damodar Himal with Dhaulagiri range a unique peak on less climbed lesser mountains around Trekking Peaks of Nepal.
Thorang Peak Climb adventure begins with a long drive but interesting journey to reach around Nepal Mid West at Lamjung district, where walk follows Marsyangdi River upstream towards high hills of Jagat, Dharapani village entering into Buddhist villages of great interest to witness its culture and custom.
Walking into cool serene woodland to reach high and scenic Manang valley at Pisang where tree line drops for sparse vegetations of Burberry, junipers, and rhododendron or azalea bushes facing views of high Chulu, Pisang peaks with a Northern side of Annapurna mountains.
On reaching at Manang with a rest day for acclimatization and then heading towards our destination for the climb of Thorang Peak, within high Thorang-La pass the grade of the climb as PD, means ‘Per Diffcule’ in French and Swiss Alpine Climbing System, facing rocks-ice and glaciers with some technical effort to reach the top.
After a glorious moment feeling in Great Spirit heading down towards Mustang district at holy Muktinath and at Jomsom headquarter of Mustang areas for the scenic short flight to picturesque Pokhara after an adventure of life experience on Thorang Peak Climb.
Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu and Transfer to Hotel
Day 02: In Kathmandu with sightseeing with trek briefing and preparation.
Day 03: Drive to Syange 1,140m via Besisar – 06 hrs.
Day 04: Trek to Dharapani 1,943m – 06 hrs.
Day 05: Trek to Chame 2,720 m – 05 hrs.
Day 06: Trek to Pisang 3,190 m – 05 hrs.
Day 07: Trek to Manang 3,540m – 05 hrs.
Day 08: Rest day for acclimatization in Manang with a short hike.
Day 09: Trek to Yak Kharka 4,210 m – 04 hrs.
Day 10: Trek to Thorang- La High Camp or Phedi 4,450 m – 04 hrs.
Day 11: Trek to Thorang La 5,416 m / 17,769 ft and set base camp for the climb – 05 hrs.
Day 12: Climb on top Thorang peak and return to base camp – 07 hrs.
Day 13: Trek and descend to Muktinath 3,800 m – 05 hrs
Day 14: Trek to Jomsom 2,713 m – 04 hrs.
Day 15: Fly to Pokhara 860 m – 22 mins and transfer to hotel.
Day 16: Drive back to Kathmandu – 06 hrs.
Day 17: International Departure for homeward bound.
Thorong Peak is one of the famous peak that is climbed by professional trekkers and climbers to combine with the root of Thorong La Pass. It is technically not so difficult climbing peak. It is suitable for beginners. However, you must be prepared mentally as well as physically for this adventure.
Lodging and food
We will be greeting you at International airport and make your stay possible at one of the 3-star hotels in the town. While you are on the Trek, you will be staying at the Hotels and Teahouse / Lodge with few nights camping. The stay may be twin sharing or single(depends on what you want and it is difficult to find a separate bedroom at high above). Likewise, Access the Asia will take you to the best possible place where you can enjoy the hygienic Nepali as well as International food. Accommodation with breakfast, lunch and dinner at different areas during trekking and in camping as per the holiday plan will be provided. For the Lunch and Dinner, while staying at Kathmandu, you are responsible for the payment. There will be the farewell dinner with every guest after they return form their Trek.
Best Time to travel
March to May and September – November is best for climbing Thorong Peak.
Generally, we will be traveling by Bus. If you want to go in private vehicles, then we can make it possible but it may take extra charges. Flights are also available.
Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu and Transfer to Hotel.
On reaching Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, received by our guides and staff then transfer to your hotel in the hub of Kathmandu city, after getting refreshed join with other members of Thorang Peak Climb, where our guide will brief you regarding trek and climb, do’s and don’ts, Nepalese culture, lodge on route trek with full information to make your stay with us enjoyable and memorable, evening welcome dinner at typical Nepalese restaurant with folk-cultural program as entertainment during dinner.
Day 02: Kathmandu with sightseeing tour, trek briefing and preparations.
Morning after breakfast at given time for sightseeing tour, our city guides will meet you at the hotel for interesting sightseeing tour leading you in the heart of Kathmandu at old Durbar (palace) square of great historical importance includes Temple of Kumari (Living young virgin Goddess) Kastamandap Temple where Kathmandu name derived from, a temple built with the wood of a single tree, tour of old palace during the reign of Malla and late Shah kings.
Tour leads to famous landmark of Nepal at Swayambhunath Stupa of more than 2,500 years old a Buddhist Chaitya or Stupa with all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha.
Afternoon visit holy Hindu Temple of Pashupatinath adorned with silver doors and golden tiers roofed pagoda a popular and famous temple where thousands of pilgrims visits every year in the month of February on Shiva Rartri (Lord Shiva birth anniversary). After an interesting and exciting tour of world heritage sites return back to hotel for Thorang Peak Climb preparation.
Day 03: Drive to Syange 1,140 m via Besisar (by bus) - 06 hrs.
Wonderful adventure to Thorang Peak climb starts with an interesting overland drive towards Nepal mid west, leading to Besisar town (headquarter of Lamjung district). From here transfer to another vehicle and continue drive on dirt road passing villages of Khudi, Bulbule and Ngadi following the Marshyangdi River upstream.
Journey continues past rice terraces fields and villages to Syange a small village for overnight stop in the comfort of nice local lodge.
Day 04: Trek to Dharapani 1,943 m - 06 hrs.
From Syange morning our first day walk begins with climb leaving behind Marshyangdi River behind to Jagat village, a farm village with many lodges for travelers.
After Jagat walk leads on winding path to Chamje, and back at Marshyangdi River with super views of Annapurna and Manaslu mountain ranges.
As walk continues reaching at Tal Besi, from here another 3 hours walk leads to our overnight stop at Dharapani village.
Dharapani a nice village located on the trails of Annapurna circuit and Manaslu trekking trail.
Day 05: Trek to Chame 2,720m - 05 hrs.
After Dharapani walk into rhododendron and pine forest past Bagarchap and Danque vilalges, to reach at Timang village of Buddhist culture village facing views of Manaslu, from Timang village few hours walks to Koto and then to Chame town for overnight stop, Chame a large major town of Manang area and a head quarter town of the district.
Day 06: Trek to Pisang 3,190 m - 05 hrs.
From Pisang onwards walk leads close to mountains through alpine forests of rhododendron and pine trees, following Marshyangdi River upstream with short ups and down hills to Bhratang village. From Bhratang village walk follows uphill through alpine woodland to Dhukure Pokhari a small place with few teahouses and lodge overlooking Chulu’s and Pisang peak, with possible lunch stop, and then descends to lower Pisang village for overnight stop.
Day 07: Trek to Manang 3,540m - 05 hrs.
From Pisang village views of mountains, from here onward altitude gains as walk leads through forest with short uphill and views of Annapurna II and III, Gangapurna Chulu’s and Pisang peak.
Walk to reach on flat valley at Hongde village, from here onward tree lines fades for barren, arid landscapes with cold, dry arctic climate.
Before Manang, visit old Braga monastery with old Buddhist relics, ancient wall painting and frescos and stunning views of Annapurna Himalaya, from here an hour walk reaches at Manang village.
Day 08: Rest day for acclimatization in Manang with short hike.
A rest day for acclimatization and short hike around Manang village, as walking ups and down hills helps with acclimatization with high altitude before the climb to Thorang Peak and Thorang-La pass.
A perfect place for rest day walk and explore Manang village if interesting Buddhist culture and hike to high hills for great views of Gangapurna and Annapurna III glaciers with Manang turquoise colored icy lake.
Day 09: Trek to Yak Kharka 4,210 m - 04 hrs.
After a good rest at Manang, walk towards Ghunsang village with short uphill to reach at Yak Kharka, an interesting walk with views of snowcapped mountains, on crossing a small stream reaching Yak Kharka for overnight stop, a small settlement with views of Gangapurna, Annapurna III and Chulu Peaks.
Day 10: Trek to Thorang- La High Camp or Phedi 4,450 m - 04 hrs.
Morning walk lead to more high elevation getting closer at the base of Thorang-la after crossing a bridge with a climb along the river bank of Jarjung, finally walk leads at Thorang Phedi, here depending upon the physical conditions of the clients, if all goes well an hour steep climb to Thorang High Camp for overnight stop.
Day 11: Climb Thorang La 5,416m and walk to set base camp of Thorang peaks - 05 hrs.
One of the highlight of the adventure, after early breakfast walk leads to a long climb to Thorang-la on steep winding path to reach Thorang La Pass at 5,416 m / 17,769 ft.
On top Thorang-La pass with awesome panorama of surrounding mountains with Dhaulagiri and Mustang Himal views our route leads little over south of the pass at the base of Thorang Peak at above 6,144 m / 20,275 ft high for next early morning climb.
Afternoon rest and preparation for the climb while our guide and staff set up camps for the ascent of Thorang peak.
Day 12: Climb on top Thorang peak and return to base camp - 07 hrs.
Morning with final preparation, early morning climb before sunrise to reach on top Thorang peak, as route leads t rocky icy path with short ridges to follow lead by our expert guide, where rope support required for safety necessary.
After hour of steep vigorous climb reach the summit of Thorang Peak on top 6,144 meters high.
Thorang peak one of the least climbed by adventurer and climbers, offers superb views of surrounding Mid West Himalaya including great massive Dhaulagiri mountain range with Tilicho-Nilgiris including Khatung Kang 6,484 m and Syagang peaks 6,026 at close distance.
Enjoying views from vantage high point of the adventure descend safely back to base camp.
Day 13: Trek and descend to Muktinath 3,800 m - 05 hrs.
On reaching highest point of the adventure with stunning views, and then heading to a long descends to reach at holy Muktinath around Lower Mustang area.
On reaching Muktinath for overnight stop, this is a holy spot for both Hindus and Buddhists the word Muktinath literally means ‘the place for Nirvana or Liberation.
Day 14: Trek to Jomsom 2, 715 m - 04 hours.
After Muktinath, rest of the walks is moderate with long descend to Kaligandaki river valley reaching at Jomsom, headquarter town of Mustang region with small airstrip above Kaligandaki River, an interesting area on Kaligandaki River valley a dry and arid country.
A pleasant walk of few hours brings you at Jomsom the main town of Thakali people with Tibetan Buddhism religion. At Jomsom for overnight stop headquarter town of Mustang district with nice paved streets and many well kept lodges.
Day 15: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara 860 m - 20 mins flight.
Early breakfast and then transfer to Jomsom airport for sweeping short flight of 20 minutes to Pokhara, during airborne spectacular views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiris and Annapurna range of mountains with rolling hills dotted with farm villages,
On reaching Pokhara airport transfer to respective hotels by the serene lake Phewa, afternoon free for individual activities or just relax and enjoy the views of the Annapurna Himalaya.
Day 16: Drive back to Kathmandu.
Morning an exciting drive back to Kathmandu with memories of exciting climb on Thorang Peak climb around Annapurna Himalaya, an interesting six hour drive brings you back at Kathmandu with afternoon at leisure for shopping souvenirs, evening farewell dinner in nice Nepalese restaurants with folk culture programs.
Day 17: International Departure for Homeward bound.
Your last day in Nepal in the country of high Himalaya with fascinating culture and memorable time on Thorang Peak Climb around high and scenic Manang Valley with wonderful experience, as per your international flight time transfer to airport for the flight back home or to respective countries.
