A great journey on the less traveled areas by other mass flow of trekkers in this perfect wilderness to Makalu base camp where you can view towering peaks of Makalu-Baruntse-Chamlang with rare East Face of Mt. Everest known as ‘Khangsung.’

Certainly an adventure of a lifetime experience which leads you from the warm valley of Arun River and towards high cooler alpine hills covered within the deep dense coniferous forest of tall rhododendron-oaks-magnolia-pines and fir tree lines.

The walk leads into remote farm areas within traditional interesting villages of great interest untouched by modern outside world with an old heritage of lifestyle as it was for hundreds of years, the areas of mixed tribe mostly populated by Kirat people of Rai-Limbu with few Gurung – Magar and some Hindu tribes.

On leaving villages and town heading high into Barun valley after crossing Kongma-la, Shipton-la and past glacial lakes known as Thulo and Sano Pokhari (Big and Small ponds) then into a huge scenic Barun valley considered as rich areas for herbs and rare species of vegetation which is almost lost in this planet, found only on this great areas.

Walking towards the end of the valley to the foot of world number fifth highest Mt. Makalu above 8, 463 m / 27,766 ft with the super panorama of peaks that surround the base camp with Baruntse and Chamlang glaciers close to MAKALU BASE CAMP TREK.

After an exciting and enjoyable time walk leads on the same route to Tumlingtar allowing you with more time to soak in this beautiful wilderness and great scenery, finally reaching around warmer rice field areas of sub-tropical climate at Tumlingtar around Arun valley for the flight back to Kathmandu with marvelous experience and adventure on Makalu Base Camp Trekking.


Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu and Transfer to Hotel
Day 02: In Kathmandu with sightseeing with trek briefing and preparation.
Day 03: Fly to Tumlingtar 448 m – 40 mins and drive to Num 1,490 m – 04 hrs.
Day 04: Trek to Seduwa 1,540 m – 05 hrs.
Day 05: Trek to Tashi Gaon 2,135m – 04 hrs.
Day 06: Trek to Kongma Danda 3,556 m – 05 hrs
Day 07: Trek to Mumbuk 3,553 m – 06 hrs.
Day 08: Trek to Nehe Kharka 3,760 m – 05 hrs.

Physical fitness
Makalu Base Camp is for those who are physically fit and can walk for hours to reach their destination. It
is the Strenuous trek that takes you to the base camp of Makalu after some hours of a walk down to the
moderate paths. As the base camp lies in higher altitude, one needs to be physically fit and healthy.
Before planning for MBC, you need to check your physical condition by consulting your physician.
Similarly, handling the low air pressure, high winds and low temperatures and also practicing to carry
the weight can help you through the trip to MBC.

Lodging and food
We will be greeting you at International airport and make your stay possible at one of the 3-star hotels
in the town. While you are on the Trek to the base camp, you will be staying at the Teahouses. The stay
may be twin sharing or single(depends on what you want and it is difficult to find a separate bedroom at
high above). Likewise, Access The Asia will take you to the best possible place where you can enjoy the
hygienic Nepali as well as International food. Accommodation with breakfast, lunch and dinner at
different areas during trekking and in camping as per the holiday plan will be provided. For the Lunch
and Dinner, while staying at Kathmandu, you are responsible for the payment. There will be the farewell
dinner with every guest after they return form their Trek.

Best Time to travel
February to Mid June, September – Mid December is the best for climbing up the Base Camp. Dec &
January are cold which can be snowy, July and August are rainy time, trekking can be done, but visibility
can be weak due to rain.

If you are physically fit, who can walk minimum of 4 hours then it is definitely for you. The minimum trekking altitude ranges from 2000 m plus and can go up to the maximum altitude of 5000 m plus.

Yes, you will, because you will be trekking in the remotest himalayan region of the world, where you are not familar with its trail, villages, people, and their culture. There, the local people do not speak English much, so you need a trekking guide, who can speak their language and Nepali.

Your travel insurance company must provide you Helicopter Evacuation Service. Normally, it will cost you up to US $5000 in Nepal. If you are coming to Nepal for climbing then you must do climbing insurance in your country as well. Carefully check the terms and conditions of your insurance company, especially what they cover during trekking and climbing.

The trekking guides of Access the Asia are well - trained in the first aid; they also carry the first aid box and do the necessary treatment for you.
