Kathmandu’s urban landscape gradually gives way to scenic valleys, terraced hills, and the distant silhouette of snow-capped summits. We travel through slender mountain passes on the aircraft, which is an adventure in and of itself, and we get to see the Himalayan giants up close and personal.
We step onto the rough airfield of Lukla after a breathless descent onto the Tenzing-Hillary Airport, renowned as one of the world’s most dangerous airports. Our first steps in Lukla, which serves as the entrance to the Khumbu region and is surrounded by towering peaks, feel like the start of a lengthy trip.
We stepped into the trail with our hiking boots firmly in place, making our way through rhododendron forests and over suspension bridges that straddle the raging Dudh Koshi River. The crisp autumn air is accompanied by the melodies of birds that resound through the valleys as we travel.
After a few hours of hiking, we reach Phakding, a picturesque hamlet perched on the banks of a river. After leaving Tengboche behind, the trail momentarily drops before beginning a series of ascents that take us past scenic settings where prayer flags flutter in the mountain breeze.
The Himalayas’ unadulterated splendor is seen when the scenery opens up around us. Summits such as Taboche and Kantega adorn our horizon, with each ascent providing breath-taking vistas that evoke reverence and wonder.
It is exciting to approach Dingboche, a settlement tucked away in a valley encircled by towering peaks. A strange scene is created by the stone-walled homes and terraced fields set against the backdrop of the tall mountains.

Nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, Gorak Shep’s arrival signifies the peak of our journey. We spend the night in the rural settlement, which is home to modest teahouses and beautiful scenery. The village is alive with the stories of hikers who have dared to go higher.
The journey we took on Day 9—from Lobuche to Everest Base Camp and then on to Gorak Shep is evidence of our tenacity and steadfast determination. The incredible accomplishment of making up to Everest Base Camp and the arduous journey to Gorak Shep leave us in awe of the surrounding natural beauties as well as our own perseverance. We descend from the peaks of Kalapatthar and head towards Pheriche. The trail offers a variety of landscapes, from gentle valleys to rolling pathways, with vistas of the surrounding Himalayan grandeur appearing at every bend.

We left Pheriche, a place that has served as a refuge in the middle of the Himalayas, and continued on, following the winding paths that have become ingrained in our memories.

Day12: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla
On the twelfth day of our amazing Himalayan journey, we say goodbye to Namche Bazaar and set out to return to Lukla. The voyage is a celebration of accomplishments and the apex of memories carved in the high-altitude ether.
We depart Namche Bazaar, a town that has served as both a haven and a center of Himalayan liveliness, and embark on the well-traveled route that marks the conclusion of our magnificent journey.

There are fleeting glimpses of the soaring peaks that have been our constant companions throughout the morning in Lukla. The flurry of bustle surrounding Tenzing-Hillary Airport heightens our sense of impending departure.
Getting on the plane to return to Kathmandu is an experience in and of itself. For the final time, the brief but thrilling ride takes us past breathtaking mountain passes and offers breathtaking aerial views of the Himalayas.
Thoughts of our journey across the Himalayas permeate the atmosphere as we soar above the clouds. Thoughts of peaceful valleys, difficult climbs, and the friendships made during the journey give us with a sense of satisfaction and thankfulness.
